The first BMW iX3

  • All-electric mobility in BMW km combined CO2 emissions: 0 g/km combined fuel consumption: 0.0 l/100 km; /km). The first BMW iX3 combines emission-free driving pleasure with the sporty characteristics that characterize BMW, the comfort, versatility and space of the BMW X3. The BMW iX3 represents the latest phase in the BMW Group’s electrification process; the technical know-how developed during the production of the BMW I models is used for the first time in a purely electric model from the BMW brand.
  • The new BMW iX3 will be the brand’s first model to also be produced for export at the Shenyang manufacturing facility in China. Market launch will begin in China later in 2020.
  • The new BMW iX3 also embodies the ‘Power of Choice’ strategic approach; as the BMW Group meets both customer requirements and strict regulations worldwide. The BMW X3 will be the first model to be available with highly efficient petrol and diesel engines, plug-in hybrids or pure electric systems.
  • The new BMW iX3 paves the way for the fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology. Major advances in power density, operating range, weight, installation space requirements and flexibility. The power density of the electric motor in the iX3 is 30 percent higher than that of electric vehicles offered by the BMW Group; gravimetric energy density of the high voltage battery at the cell level of 20%. The latest versions of the electric motor, electronics, charging technology and high-voltage battery (all developed in-house) will also be implemented in the BMW iNEXT and BMW i4 from 2021.
  • Efficiency has increased significantly compared to the BMW i3 thanks to highly integrated drive system technology. The electric motor, transmission and electronics are now arranged in one compartment. The fifth-generation BMW eDrive high-voltage battery with the latest battery cell technology and a total energy content of 80 kWh enables a driving range of up to 460 kilometers (285 miles) in the new legally required WLTP test cycle (up to 520 kilometers (up to 520 km) 323 miles) in the NEDC test cycle). The BMW Group monitors compliance with environmental and social standards in the procurement process for lithium and cobalt used in battery cells.
  • The new fifth-generation BMW eDrive electric motor delivers a maximum output of 210 kW / 286 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds (for comparison – BMW X3 30i: 6.4 seconds), top speed (electronically limited): 180 km/h (112 mph). The electric motor of the new BMW iX3 works on the principle of a synchronous motor without using magnets. This design allows you to avoid the use of rare earths in the manufacture of the machine.
  • The ability to recover a variable amount of energy allows you to choose between a distinct one-pedal sensation with extensive recovery of brake energy and wheeling in riding position B and adaptive recovery including riding in riding position D. The recovery level can be adjusted in three steps. Adaptive Regeneration improves driving comfort and efficiency by adapting brake energy regeneration and release to driving conditions.
  • The transfer of power to the rear wheels offers a classic BMW driving experience. The unrivaled combination of low power consumption and high charging capacity enables long-distance travel at high average speeds. Adaptive suspension (standard) maximizes sports performance and comfort.
  • The debut of BMW IconicSounds Electric in the BMW iX3 provides acoustics to enrich the electric driving experience and give it additional emotional depth. Powerful driving sound available with the “Impressive” equipment line. An unmistakable soundtrack, developed in collaboration with Hans Zimmer, accompanies the start and deactivation of the electric drive system.
  • Customized charging products and services: The BMW charging card provides simple and convenient access to over 450,000 public charging points worldwide; new flexible fast chargers (allowing the use of different types of plugs) and a high-performance wall box now available as an option. Individual packages offer the best charging solution for every customer need.
  • The new digital service from BMW Connected Charging in the car and via the app promotes intuitive e-mobility and improves navigation planning, including recommendations for charging stops. The navigation system takes pauses during the trip to charge the high-voltage battery into account (contains detailed information about individual charging points) when planning the route and calculating the arrival time.
  • Optimizing energy reserves now allow vehicles up to 150 kW to be charged at DC fast charging stations; charging from 0 to 80% of the high-voltage battery takes 34 minutes, a 10-minute charge adds 100 kilometers (62 miles) of range (WLTP). BMW iX3 customers enjoy particularly favorable prices on IONITY fast charging stations with a consumption-dependent component.
  • The characteristic proportions of the BMW X model are combined with model-specific design features. Innovative 19-inch BMW aerodynamic alloy wheels with a new design that reduces drag.
  • Premium interior ambience with model-specific accents. Comprehensible and versatile interior with great comfort for five people on daily trips and even long trips; The carrying capacity can be expanded from 510 liters to 1,560 liters.
  • Standard specification (‘Inspiring’) includes metallic paint, LED headlights, three-zone automatic climate control with pre-heating and pre-cooling, automatic tailgate operation, panoramic sunroof, Driving Assistant Professional and ambient lighting. The “Impressive” accessory line also offers 20-inch alloy wheels, acoustic glass, sports seats, Vernasca leather upholstery, BMW Head-Up Display, Parking Assistant Plus and Harman Kardon Surround Sound.
  • BMW Live Cockpit Professional with cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant as standard. Smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote software update and BMW Connected Charging digital service also standard.
  • Exceptional environmental assessment thanks to a commitment to sustainability throughout the value chain. The CO2 output of the BMW iX3 over its lifetime is significantly lower than the BMW X3 xDrive20d; it is reduced by 30% when electricity from the European energy mix is used for charging and by 60% when only green energy is used.
