Tesla’s plans to expand the factory in Germany “go into the fridge”, since then although the company obtained the relevant permitsthe decline in the growth rate of demand for electric cars is forcing Tesla to “freeze” its programming.
Factory manager Andre Thierig explains:
We will not spend billions to expand the factory when we are not sure that those (production) numbers will be required by the market.
Our planning at the beginning of the year clearly predicted stronger growth, but this did not materialize.
In the first half of the year, 184,125 electric cars were sold in Germany, of which 21,249 were Tesla models. In the same period last year, 220,244 electric vehicles were sold, including 36,384 Tesla cars. As a result, Tesla cut 400 employees at its factory just outside Berlin.
