Casa Nube is located in Colonia Niño Jesús, next to Retiro Park in Madrid. It is a house of 95 m2 with his reformation Animal Studioa project that won ‘ex aequo’ the FAD Award 2024 in the Interior Design category (together with the Gimaguas store in Barcelona).
The initial distribution Casa Nube had the typical features of houses of the time: many small rooms, a service area connected to a kitchen isolated from the rest of the house, small bathrooms and narrow corridors. That is, a medium-sized, highly compartmentalized space.
The main objective of the reformation of Studio Animal was get an open space which would make the most of both the surface and the possible climatic and lighting conditions of the property, as well as the construction of an intimate space particularly differentiated from the public sphere.
To do this, the study examines the residential typology in search the radical disappearance of server rooms and corridors. It proposes a large space that accommodates all the public uses of the house and organizes them in a single white and bright room: living room, dining room, kitchen, reading… This, moreover, allows the cross ventilation in this space and takes advantage of the natural lighting from the community’s facade and atrium, significantly improving the comfort conditions of this space. Adjacent to this public space is the private enclave, consisting of two double and symmetrical bedrooms, one facing the main facade and the other facing the inner atrium.
Colored bathroom
In contrast to the neutral and white public space, each of the bedrooms is fully en-suite with a color chosen by its inhabitants. Between the two spaces, public and private, an elongated and narrow tablet acts as a filter and houses the wet areas of the house. Like it was a ritual, that cloud The liquid is crossed to go from the more private spectrum to the public space. You wake up in the morning in your privacy, go through the cloud to clean and prepare for the day that begins and go out into public life.
This cloud It is raised above the ground level of the residence to allow the passage of the facilities to the main outlet, but also to enhance the transition from the public space, open and white, with a free height of 3 meters, to the private. space, colored and collected. Two large hidden curved doors give way to these rooms.
All internal surfaces thereof filter area They are covered with glazed ceramic, as if it were a single skin. They are finished in a glass mosaic of 2.5 x 2.5 cm pieces by Hisbalit, placed on the curved walls with pre-formed grids and on the floor, in an artisanal way, piece by piece aligned with the curve at its meeting with the walls in concentric circles .
