MINE AND PLASTIC FREE TOGETHER FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW, TO INCREASE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION CRITERIA, IN THE NAME OF GREAT LOVE ON THE PLANET.

San Donato Milanese. After the great success achieved in 2023, involving more than 20,000 volunteers in over 300 cities, collecting 490 kg of butts and more than 236,000 kg of plastic and waste removed from Italian beaches, green areas and urban areas, MINI and Plastic Free – ONLUS founded in 2019 with the aim of informing and raising awareness of the dangers of plastic pollution – confirming and renewing its partnership for the second year in a row and launching the second edition of the Clean Up Competition, a challenge between cities to remove tons of plastic and waste that is scattered in the environment.

The first stage of the cleanest competition in Italy will be held on June 8 and 9 to celebrate Environment and Ocean Day, while the second will be on September 28 and 29 to celebrate Sea & Rivers Day. Four days where MINI and Plast Free invite their communities to take action to deal with the serious problem of pollution and increase the awareness of citizens, institutions and companies on the subject of sustainability and environmental protection.

On the 8th and 9th of June, 70 Italian cities will participate in the Cleanup Competition with the aim of collecting waste of all types within the urban context.

“MINI is guided by environmental protection – says Federica Manzoni, head of MINI Italia – which it accepts with a constant and tangible commitment and which can be found in the BIG LOVE FOR THE PLANET manifesto, an essential part of MINI’s BIG LOVE communication strategy. Five words that not only describe the desire for a cleaner and more sustainable world today, but that intend to trace a virtuous path to reduce carbon dioxide emissions2
in production processes and become a fully electric brand by 2030. On this journey, Plastic Free proves to be an ideal partner, to work towards a better future and aim for increasingly ambitious goals.”

“MINI’s love for protecting the planet follows partners who share attention to the theme of sustainability, such as plastic-free – continues Federica Manzoni – Through activities such as the cleaning competition, the intention is to transfer our values into a tangible commitment also in the territory, not only the volunteers, but also MINI the partner network, BMW Group Italia partners and the MINI Lovers community, because all together we can and must make a difference.”

Sustainability is part of MINI’s DNA. The designer, Sir Alec Issigonis, bravely came up with the concept of the car, sixty-five years ago, to overcome the challenge of the global oil crisis. Today, the same passion drives MINI forward to meet the challenges of a new generation of cars that continues the path towards an all-electric future, with a series of sustainability measures and ambitions. In this regard, MINI is implementing new methods to reduce CO2 and constantly finding innovative design solutions to reuse and recycle materials.

Every day is an opportunity to rewrite the rules of the automotive industry, just as MINI first did in ’59.
