Faster than the Koenigsegg Regera

Of course, all this leads in one direction: the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut should break a speed record. He started doing it recently. As Koenigsegg recently announced, the hypercar set a new record in the field of “0-400-0” at the airfield in the Swedish city of Örebro. Koenigsegg test driver Markus Lund drove the Jesko Absolut from zero to 400 km/h in just 27.83 seconds in the early hours of June 27, braking to a halt. This means that the team of driver and vehicle was almost exactly one second faster than the previous record holder, which Koenigsegg knows well. During the record run, Lund and the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut set three more overtaking records: 0 to 250 mph in 18.82 seconds, 0 to 250 mph (402.34 km/h) in 19.20 seconds and 0 to 250 mph in 28.27 seconds. So far, they have only been verified by the timing experts at Racelogic and not by any independent body such as the Guinness World Records Committee or the World Motor Sport Authority FIA.

The top speed record is on the horizon

“This record achievement confirms the accuracy of Jesko Absolut’s simulated and calculated performance and gives us great confidence in its ability to soon become the fastest, fully homologated production car in the world,” said company president and founder Christian von Koenigsegg. This automatically means that the Swede 300 mph (482.8 km/h) or 500 km/h mark goal. Before that can happen, the right tires need to be developed, tested and approved by Koenigsegg. He previously said the company isn’t looking to “make a production road car that’s faster than anything ever made before.” That means either Koenigsegg can achieve the speed goal the Swede has been aiming for for years with the Jesko Absolut. Or it never will.

To make the project a success, Absolute will use the technology known from Jesko Attack. What this means for the engine: a flat-plane V8 engine that spins at up to 8,500 rpm, with a displacement of 5 liters and double turbocharger, develops 1,622 horsepower and exerts up to 1,500 Newton meters – but only when fed with E85 bioethanol. The Absolute also adopts an unusual 9-speed gearbox with 6 clutches from the standard model.

However, there are also structural differences between the model variants. The front suspension is now more compact, allowing the targa roof to be tucked under the front hood. In addition, the rear suspension is softer, which should further improve the Absolute’s driving comfort. “The Absolute feels very natural when driving,” Koenigsegg test driver Markus Lund once said about Jesko’s first high-speed car. “The seamless switching, whether up or down, makes everything much faster.”

From now on, Koenigsegg customers will be able to decide whether they want their Jesko to be the track-focused Attack version or the Absolut version. The price of the Koenigsegg Jesko is around 3 million euros, but there is almost no upper limit depending on the special requirements of each customer.
