Here’s how Lotus positions the Emeya against the Taycan & Co.


Munich (dpa/tmn) – Lotus is positioning itself more broadly in the electric luxury class: following on from the large EleTre off-road vehicle, the UK is launching the Chinese-funded Emeya.

Self-described as a hyper GT, according to the manufacturer, this sleek four-door will compete this summer against models such as the Lucid Air and, above all, the Porsche Taycan. Lotus is banking on a notable price advantage, because with a starting price of 106,400 euros, it is significantly cheaper than comparable competitors.

There’s also a coupe-limousine with an overall length of 5.14 metres and a wheelbase of over three metres, giving it space for three adults in the back. The battery has a capacity of 102kWh, which Lotus says is enough for a range of 485-610km, depending on the configuration. They’re also hoping to beat the competition on sockets: the Taycan, for example, can charge at up to 320kW, while the Lotus’s charging capacity is 400kW.

The top model can reach 100km/h in under 3 seconds

The Emeya is also fast to drive. Even the base version is powered by two 450 kW/603 hp engines; the top-of-the-line model increases output to 675 kW/905 hp. Lotus says that the electric machines, with a combined output of around 1,000 Nm, can accelerate the Emeya from standstill to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 252 km/h.
