Giampietro Nattino, honorary president of Banca Finnat, has passed away in Rome at the age of 89. A note from the bank itself made it official. and Nattino was among the most prominent exponents of the Roman banking world, a point of reference for Catholic and Vatican finance. He was the architect of the development of Finnat Euramerica Bank, created in 1898 by his grandfather Pietro, and grew through long experience acquired first as a professional company of stockbrokers, then as a financial company and agent of the stock market commission, then as a stock broker and finally, since 12 February 1998, as a Banking Group. The Bank is now led by the fifth generation of the founding family, with CEO Arturo Nattino, Giampiero’s son.

The biography
Nattino graduated in economics and business at the University of Rome Knight of Labour and Knight Grand Cross of the Italian Republic and was a member of the Euro Committee (Ministry of the Treasury Finance Subcommittee). At the age of 23 he was working in the Pope’s antechamber, then consultant to the Vatican’s Prefecture of Economic Affairs. During his long career he held many important positions, including: president of Unione Immobiliare, of Uniorias Due, of Pirelli Telecom and Sodali Cables and Systems. He has also been a board member of: Buitoni Perugina, Interfund, Cattolica Assicurazione Pirelli & C. Real Estate, General Investimenti Alternativi Sgr, Banque Privée Fideuram Paris, Ina Assitalia, Banca Fideuram, General and London Stock Exchange plc London. Among other roles, he was also councilor of the Accademia Filarmonica Romana and councilor of the Fondazione per il Tuo Cuore Onlus.
Three years ago the events related to an accusation that the banker defined as “a scandal” ended: at the age of 85 he was in fact acquitted, after seven years, of the accusation of manipulation of shares of Banca Finnat and of preventing administration with accounts opened at APSA, the Vatican body that oversees the assets of the Holy See.
