Farmers from all over Europe are coming together. The opposite, landed in Italy, started far away in Holland, where the Rutte government provoked the anger of the farmers, who were offended by his draconian policies against the release. The Credit Union has recently gained the numbers in the local elections of March 2023. This round of opposition has started from Germany. But it quickly infected the Baltic countries, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and France.
The main reasons for these movements can be divided into two those who used the same methods (tractor travel in cities and road blocks). In the East is the reason above all the war in Ukraine. Lithuania and Latvia are fighting to get a permanent break on Russian wheat imports. But in Poland, Romania A Bulgaria, the opposition is against the importation of Ukrainian grain, going through their lands to bypass the Russian warship, but in this way to fight with local farmers. In Bulgaria, the government and the opposition reached an agreement, while in Romania the mediation failed and the opposition continued. The farmers’ demonstration was also organized cars, especially in Poland, on the border with Ukraine. And the reason is constant competition with Ukrainian partners. Lithuanians are also opposed to the use of cultivated land to preserve the prairie’s nature. And the Romanians for not giving the promised contributions to compensate for the losses caused by the drought.
The sounds of war from Germany and France are far away. Where tractors are allowed on the roads by environmental policies of national governments. In France the coordinators announced on January 22 (yesterday, for those reading this) that the protest will continue. And they are doing tours in more cities, especially in the South. Farmers group Fnsea ignored the move. One of his representatives, who spoke at an exhibition in Toulouse, was quoted in his speech. The main demands, according to Germany, are: no new taxes on agricultural fuel and no hyper-regulation, the two consequences of President Macron’s environmental policies.
France is not new to this kind of movement The “yellow vests” are a movement born against the fuel tax and developed, far from Paris, outside traditional groups and unions. French farmers can change strongly: on January 19, a bomb it exploded in the headquarters of the environmental policy office in Carcassonne, at night, without death, but only broken windows, as a form of real evidence, said (with graffiti) by a committee Winegrowers know.
In Germany, however, the tractor goes, and also in Berlin (5 thousand cars passed through the capital), they continue for the third week. Moreover, the attempt of the Scholz government, led by the Social Democrats, to push back did not stop the demonstrations. Finance Minister Christian Lindner tried to talk to the Berlin square on January 15, but he booed and literally kicked out.
German opposition to environmental policies, which opposes the green and social democratic government. In interviews given to a journalist of the magazine Spiked, this motivation comes out clearly. “You get the feeling that farmers are no longer welcome in Germany. They want to destroy us.” bad decisions.” “My farm, which has been managed by my family for about ten generations, is in danger of being destroyed”. “The Greens (in government, ed.) are the worst thing that can happen to agriculture.” “We are full of laws and regulations. There are new ones every week (…) Green thinking is not bad in itself, but we have lost the sense of measures. Everything is regulated like the green idea, whether it’s fair or not.”
