European regulatory authorities EBA, EIOPA and ESMA agreed that the ESA (European Supervisory Authority) has entered a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation and exchange of information with the European Union Agency for Cyber Security (ENISA).
This document coordinates the ongoing dialogue between the ESA and ENISA leaders to implement the cooperation between the parties, following the NIS2 guidelines on cybersecurity which provides a legal framework to strengthen overall cybersecurity in the EU with the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA).
The MoU sets out a framework for cooperation and information exchange in areas of mutual interest, including incident reporting and monitoring of other information communication technology (ICT) providers. It will promote regulatory integration, facilitate cross-border learning and build capacity in areas of interest and change in information and emerging technologies.
Verena Ross, Chair of the ESA Joint Committee and Chair of ESMA, said: “The new cooperation agreement will strengthen the collaboration of authorities working on cybersecurity risks in the financial sector and ENISA, demonstrating everyone’s determination to protect the financial system from information security risks. In an interconnected world, ICT risks are not limited to a single region or sub-region, making cross-sectoral collaboration critical. By supporting collaboration and sharing resources, we will continue to improve our ability to detect and respond to cybersecurity attacks. “
