Dreame L20 Ultra put to the test: the robot that changes your life

We’ve been following Dreame on these pages for a few years now. We tried several products from the Chinese brand, starting with the Dreame T30 vacuum cleaner review until you get to test of the Dreame L10 Ultraa robot that washed and vacuumed and that seemed hard to improve upon given its efficiency.
Fortunately, this is not the case, because the latest arrival Dreame L20 Ultra manages to do an incredible thing, which is to further raise the bar of quality and features. How? To extract even more power, use innovative engineering solutions, increase automation in the cleaning process even further and even add functions for home security.

The size of the base is growing, but there is a good reason

One of the most surprising things about Dreame robots is their simplicity of installation, especially compared to the complexity of the technologies included in L20 Ultra.

Compared to L10 Ultra is the first thing you notice the growth in the size of the base and its new design, with decidedly more cut and elegant lines. This is not a mere exercise in style, the innovations of this new model start right from the base. First, an optional clean water loading system was implemented. Floor washing is managed thanks to two water tanks placed inside the base, one for clean water and one for dirty water. The clean water is channeled into a further tank inside the robot, which it uses to wet the two wash brushes it is equipped with, thus cleaning the floor. Once the process is complete, the robot pours the dirty water into the base.
With the previous model, both tanks had to be loaded and unloaded by hand, now who wants that can connect the base to the home system to charge clean water automaticallyand therefore automate the cleaning process even further.

The news for the base is not over, in fact the two tanks are now larger and can hold 4.5 L of clean water and 4 L of dirty water. One liter more water than the previous model, therefore allowing you to clean a larger area without the need to refill water. Still on the subject of laundry, the base also contains a cartridge with floor detergent, which is automatically added to the water with each wash.

You can buy new ones on Amazon, but as an alternative, you can add detergent directly into the clean water tank, as long as you use one suitable for a robot like this.
The dirt picked up by the vacuum cleaner is also dumped into the base, where A 3.2 L bag is installed which can easily be replaced by the practical flap.

The base can be placed in a few moments, after which you need to download the Dreame Home application, connect the robot to the network and start the process of mapping the house. A process that is not only impressive for the precision with which the floor plan is made, but also because it uses artificial intelligence to automatically recognize rooms based on the furniture inside them, and it does it very well. Thanks to the sensors on the robot, practically nothing needs to be done, mats are recognized as well as the presence of any pets along the route, we are faced with the best mapping technology we have ever seen in a product of this type.

The first robot with an extendable brush

The innovations are not only present in the base, but also in the robot. Apart from the small, purely aesthetic differences in the body, the most important innovations come in the washing system. The two floor scrubbing brushes are larger than in the past and applies even greater power during use, to eliminate even the most stubborn stains.

Then there are two elements that really make the difference, namely the possibility to automatically lift the two cloths off the ground by 10.5 mm, so as not to wet any carpets you come across along the way, and the pull-out brush. One of the classic limitations of robots of this type is the areas near walls or corners, which are difficult to reach. Dreame already came close to perfection with L10 Ultra, thanks to a very effective 3D vision system that allowed the robot very close to the edges. L20 Ultra does the same thing, but it also manages to push one of the two rotating brushes outside the bodythanks to MopExtend technology, arrives perfectly flush with the wall.

The two brushes are automatically washed and dried inside the base but can also be removed if you just want to vacuum up dust. about that, the suction force increased from 5300 Pa to 7000 Pa, a force far in excess of that required for simple dust accumulating on the floor. Then why take so long? Because in the presence of carpets, the power is pushed to the maximum, thus guaranteeing more effective cleaning.

We talked before about the very refined technology with which L20 Ultra manages to map the house, it is possible thanks to the sensors installed, the best you can wish for today. In addition to Lidar, there is ultrasound and a video cameraDreame also added two front LEDs, useful for enabling the system to better detect objects and obstacles, even in the dark.

The system implemented by Dreame is very advanced and uses sensors and AI to identify 55 different types of obstacles and plan more efficient cleaning. The autonomy is excellent, the 6400 mAh battery with fast charging allows you to clean even 150 m2 apartments without problems.

A robot that changes your life

In the title of this test, we said that Dreame L20 Ultra can change the lives of those who buy it. A strong but true statement, because with a robot of this type you no longer have to vacuum or wash the floors by hand.

The L10 Ultra was already good at this, but the L20 Ultra raises the bar even further. The suction power and the precision to sift through every centimeter of the floor allow you to always have the house clean without effort, even in the presence of pets there are no problems, the central brush together with the side one can really collect everything. In addition, a washing system that has made great progress compared to the first models is now able to apply enough pressure to eliminate even the toughest stains.
This is just the tip of the iceberg of what the L20 Ultra is capable of, because through the app The cleaning process can be customized as you wish. Individual rooms or individual areas of the house can be cleaned, and each room can be further customized with different degrees of cleanliness. For example, in the bedroom, a place where it is more difficult to find high levels of dirt, less water can be used for washing and less suction power, while in the kitchen, for example, both can be used with maximum power.

All this can be further automated thanks to CleanGenius technologywhich evaluates the type of room and the dirt present to set the robot for light or more thorough cleaning.
L20 Ultra then brings a final surprise, viz the possibility of using it as a security system. This function must be activated manually for privacy reasons, but once done, it allows you to use the robot to patrol the house in our absence with the camera it is equipped with.
These are just some of the functions available in L20 Ultra, there are many others, including voice commands, for a truly complete product that allows you to forget about cleaning the floors. Right now, Dreame L20 Ultra is on sale at a price of 1,099 euros on Amazon in the full version, which also includes a change of accessories included in the package.
