Munich/Las Vegas. At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the BMW Group will demonstrate the future of driving pleasure and the potential of digital connectivity. From January 8 to 11, 2019, CES visitors will have the opportunity to virtually drive the BMW Vision iNEXT, thanks to the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. With this, the BMW Group once again underlines its innovative capabilities in the areas of design, autonomous driving, connectivity, electrification and services (D+ACES), which are key areas in the group’s corporate strategy: NUMBER ONE > NEXT.
The vision car will be shown alongside an advanced mixed reality setup that provides for the first time a virtual experience of what it means to drive autonomously, emission-free and fully connected in the BMW Vision iNEXT. To start the simulation, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant suggests the day’s agenda and carefully plans the activities of the trip. Thanks to virtual reality glasses and a specially designed space, visitors can immerse themselves in this world: initially they will drive the BMW Vision iNEXT themselves and then switch to the automatic driving function. In the automatic “Ease” mode, the driver interacts with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, which makes suggestions and controls the numerous digital services available, from video conferencing to shopping to smart home functions.
With pioneering technology for highly automated driving, intelligent connectivity and an innovative control display, the BMW Vision iNEXT offers completely new ways to invest your time on board. Visitors can experience the “Shy Tech” design first-hand – technology that is discreetly integrated and only becomes visible when needed – thanks to two additional screens on the outside of the vehicle. The interior of the BMW Vision iNEXT is designed to create a comfortable and welcoming environment. The design concept comes from a question: “What will cars look like when they no longer need to be driven by a human?”
The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, which uses natural language to interact with the vehicle and access functions, marks the beginning of a new era for the BMW brand. In the new BMW X5, visitors can experience options that will be available for new models from March 2019, together with the future features of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. The personal assistant is also an integral part of the BMW stand: awelcomes visitors at the entrance of the exhibition and guides them to the center of the exhibition through a sound and light experience.
The presence of the BMW Group at CES 2019 is complemented by spectacular vehicles. BMW Motorrad will present one of the highlights of its research in the field of autonomous driving: the self-driving BMW R 1200 GS. The information gained from this test model will help provide even better assistance in the case of complex movements. For the first time, visitors can also take a seat in the new BMW X7 and enjoy driving around an exciting off-road course.
